Meet NFA v 24.08: L2 Ethernet-type filtering, Enhanced Security & Authentication, User Interface Improvements and more

We are excited to introduce Noction Flow Analyzer version 24.08, which features essential enhancements in security, data exploration, user interface, and backend performance. Below is a breakdown of the key improvements.

Advanced Data Exploration Features

NFA now supports Ethernet-type dictionary retrieval and the display of symbolic names in the Data Explorer. Each Ethernet type corresponds to a specific network protocol, such as IPv4, IPv6, ARP, or VLAN-tagged traffic. By analyzing the Ethernet type, engineers can identify the protocol encapsulated within the Ethernet frame. This identification is critical for ensuring that network devices process the frames correctly.

User Interface Improvements

The frontend of NFA has undergone several enhancements to improve user experience. The Profile Page and Welcome Wizard have been redesigned for better navigation and usability, making it easier for users to manage their settings and get started. The SNMP Reports page now includes support for stacked charts and percentile input, providing more detailed and customizable reporting options. We’ve also made isolated points in line charts more visible and removed visual drops around isolated regions, improving the clarity of your data presentations.

Enhanced Security and Authentication

With the integration of JSON Web Tokens (JWT), NFA now offers more secure authentication and session management. This update includes the automatic generation of cryptographic keys during package installation and updates, ensuring robust security from the start.

Performance Optimizations

On the backend, interface counters retrieval has been streamlined in SNMPd by removing unnecessary requests, reducing system overhead. For FLOWd, a retry mechanism for exporting flow data to Clickhouse has been implemented, ensuring data integrity even in cases of temporary export issues.
